Rust and Ruin No. 2

Welcome Readers and Writers! Returning to Weekend Writing Warriors, and more from my post-apocalyptic/sci-fi short story, Rust and Ruin. This is a prequel to Girl Under Glass. (Previously posted snippets from this work are herehere and here.)

Continuing with Ehtishem and the boy, Logan, whom he caught trying to steal fish in last week's snippet. I've jumped ahead a bit. Ehtishem has fed the kid and gotten information about the two men, Johnston and Paul, who are following him. The first to speak is Logan.

“Aren’t you worried?”

“About Johnston and Paul?”

The boy nodded and studied one of the chestnuts.

“Peel it.”

Logan did as instructed and his eyes widened with appreciation as he took a tentative bite.

Nava—no—I’m not concerned.”

Thanks for reading and commenting both last week and this week.

You can find a list of all the other WeWriWa snippets here. Many great writers to be discovered and revisited!
