The Shadow & The Sun No. 5 (#8Sunday)

wewriwa_square_1 Helloooo! Are you back for more Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday posts? Do you crave more Halina and Gethen from The Shadow & The Sun? Me, too! But before we get to the writing, we need to cover some business: Wanna be a part of WeWriWa? You can find a list of the participating authors here, as well as join in on next week's hop. Snippet Sunday is a Facebook group that also allows you to read other authors' work and to post links to your own blog. You can find them here.

Last week I failed miserably to get to everyone's blogs and leave comments. I'm sorry, guys. I'll try to be better this week.

Today's snippet returns to our lovely Militess Halina, Margrave of Khara. We last saw her dueling with her soldiers and getting her knuckles smacked 'cause she was mouthing off instead of paying attention to her opponent. Today's snippet jumps ahead a few sentences and picks up after Thaksin (her captain) ribs her about her missing fingers. (War wounds: Halina's missing a third of her pinkie and half of her ring finger on her left hand.)

“I have fingers enough for this.” She saluted him rudely then lunged and scored on his chest. “And to kill you.” She flipped her auburn hair over her shoulders. It had come loose of its braids again.

Thaksin tsk-tsked and raised his sword. “A cheater’s point, Your Ladyship?”

“Death obeys no rules.” Her next cut came from above and swept down diagonally, fast and powerful as she tried to break his guard.

Indeed, it does not. And Halina's seen enough of death to know the truth of that.

Among the living or the dead, he’s never needed anything from anyone …

Shadow Mage Gethen is a powerful necromancer, keeper of the border between the living and the dead, and brother to the king of Besera. But with his dark powers failing and a vengeful entity attacking, Gethen should be happy when a formidable lady knight appears at his gates. He’s not. The price for her aid is steep—his allegiance in a war against his brother.

In battle or in bed, she’s never met a man she considered her match …

Militess Halina is undaunted by the threat of war between her country and neighboring Besera. She earned her titles by shedding blood and breaking bones. She uses her body to reward soldiers who serve her loyally, and to punish those who don’t. And Halina’s never met a man she couldn’t command or crush.

Until now.

Passion and power unexpectedly ignite when a blizzard traps Halina at Gethen’s citadel. With the evil entity’s onslaughts rapidly deteriorating Gethen’s sorcery, they have little time to understand their unexpected attraction. But could their passion be the key to defeating an ancient enemy that’s hell-bent on obliterating their world?

Thanks for reading and commenting. Please check out all the other WeWriWa and Snippet Sunday participants this week. As always, many great writers and books to be discovered!
