The Shadow & The Sun No. 7 (#8Sunday)

wewriwa_square_1Welcome back to the Easter edition of Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday posts. There are no bunnies in The Shadow & The Sun, nor is it very spring-y. Hmmm, in fact there's a blizzard burying Gethen's citadel throughout the entire story. Sooo, maybe this isn't very Easter-y after all. Oh well. Here's a bunny. Or part of a bunny. I'm not actually sure why it got cropped that way, but it's 1:30am and I'm too tired to figure it out. Half a bunny's better than no bunny. Right?Bunny

So here's the business section. This is important to those of you who have no clue about what's going on: Wanna be a part of WeWriWa? You can find a list of the participating authors here, as well as join in on next week's hop. Snippet Sunday is a Facebook group that also allows you to read other authors' work and to post links to your own blog. You can find them here.

Last week we saw Gethen getting snippy with his servants, Noni and Magod. This week I think we'll spend a little time with Gethen and Halina. This is their first meeting, and Halina is an unexpected and unwelcome guest. It's a bit frosty. (Ha! Get it? OMG, I'm so punchy...)

“Noni will prepare a room for you, Militess. I don’t recommend a return trip through Kharayan’s woods this late. The wolves will be on the hunt, the snow promises to fall unabated, and I’ve no interest in leaving Ranith’s warmth to escort wayward ladies.”

“How kind, Master Sorcerer. Since you’re inconvenienced by my presence, let’s parley quickly; there’s much to do before Besera invades.”

Something in the mage’s face changed—darkness crossed it but was gone in a blink, and Halina, though accustomed to the subtleties of Vernard’s court, wasn’t sure that she hadn’t seen a mere shadow cast by the flickering fire.

“We’ve nothing to discuss, Margrave. Tomorrow you will leave Kharayan.” Gethen turned to address Noni.

Halina replied, “We have your cooperation to discuss, Shadow Mage.”

Among the living or the dead, he’s never needed anything from anyone …

Shadow Mage Gethen is a powerful necromancer, keeper of the border between the living and the dead, and brother to the king of Besera. But with his dark powers failing and a vengeful entity attacking, Gethen should be happy when a formidable lady knight appears at his gates. He’s not. The price for her aid is steep—his allegiance in a war against his brother.

In battle or in bed, she’s never met a man she considered her match …

Militess Halina is undaunted by the threat of war between her country and neighboring Besera. She earned her titles by shedding blood and breaking bones. She uses her body to reward soldiers who serve her loyally, and to punish those who don’t. And Halina’s never met a man she couldn’t command or crush.

Until now.

Passion and power unexpectedly ignite when a blizzard traps Halina at Gethen’s citadel. With the evil entity’s onslaughts rapidly deteriorating Gethen’s sorcery, they have little time to understand their unexpected attraction. But could their passion be the key to defeating an ancient enemy that’s hell-bent on obliterating their world?
